Jo O’Flanagan » Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a practice that uses a very light touch to balance our craniosacral system, which includes the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area.

Many people are aware of its use for babies after difficult births, but it can be used very effectively in adults too. It is based on a number of findings about the body as a connected structure, which were made by osteopaths in the USA over a 100 years ago.

These findings show that every cell in the body express a rhythmic movement which is fundamental to life. If the rhythmic movements in the body are restricted by physical injury, accidents or emotional stress, the body’s tissues can contract and the flow is inhibited causing pain and restriction.

Any stresses, strains, accidents or traumas (both emotional and physical) can be stored in the body and will inhibit the body’s normal function. This may give rise to problems over time. CST can very effectively treat long held misalignments, which can cause problems such as migraines, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, lower back pain and knee problems.

Babies and Children :-

Many parents bring their baby for treatment in order to help them overcome the effects of a difficult birth. As a result of the passage through the pelvis and the birth canal, babies get  compressed, which can displace parts of their delicate bodies. The relatively soft bones of the head move during birth, but don’t always return to an optimal position, leading to a variety of difficult conditions such as colic, constant crying, sleep and feeding problems. Caesarean births and those involving forceps or suction are also very likely to lead to such symptoms. These sometimes aren’t immediately obvious, but can develop later on. Craniosacral Therapy is suited to treating babies and children because it is so gentle and non invasive, whilst at the same time working at a profoundly deep level.

Biographical Info

Trained in Homeopathy and Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST), Jo often uses both disciplines to achieve faster and more effective healing results. This is achieved through the gentle use of Homeopathic remedies, which help to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanism and Cranial Sacral Therapy, which corrects and releases these disturbances on a more physical level.

Having built up an extremely successful practice since 2006, predominantly through word of mouth and referrals, Jo specialises in trauma, symptoms of anxiety and depression in both adults and teenagers. She is also an experienced and adept practitioner in chronic and acute conditions.

Despite seeing the many benefits from the combined use of Homeopathy and Cranial Sacral Therapy, Jo also welcomes the sole use of one discipline, if this is what the patient needs or requires.
